The results of an extensive survey of molecular clouds in the galaxy are presented. Observations of 13 CO and 12 CO emission are interpreted to determine the galactic distribution, size, mass and age of interstellar molecular clouds.

Most of the emission is from large massive cloud complexes which we refer to as Giant Molecular Clouds. Within the Milky Way, molecular gas clouds account for less than one percent of the volume of the interstellar medium (ISM), yet it is also the densest part of the medium, comprising roughly half of the total gas mass interior to the Sun's galactic orbit.
