[Ted Barclay; Charles W Turner].   Originally the young men from Washington College were known as “The Liberty Hall Volunteers,” named after an American Revolutionary War unit from Liberty Hall Academy, the earlier name for the college. On June 8th, , the volunteers were mustered into service on the Washington College campus as the 4th Virginia Infantry Regiment.
